Sharon Aston
Wet~plate artist
Welcome to my website. I am Sharon Aston a Wet~Plate Collodion artist , capturing beautiful ethereal images using a process dating back to the Victorian era,
Invented by Frederick Scott Archer in 1851.
My love for the nostalgic and historical drew me to this medium. A photographer for over 25 years, originally trained in film photography, I became disillusioned with the digital process.
Using my vintage large-format, wooden cameras and mobile darkroom, I photograph and develop images on location, outdoors using natural light here in West Cornwall and also in my little glasshouse studio.
The process has to be completed all whilst remaining wet, hence the need to develop the images straight away after exposure.
Each image is a handmade, precious heirloom, one of a kind, crafted in silver, using traditional chemicals and natural light, resulting in work often described as timeless, haunting, and exquisitely atmospheric.
"A gift to your future ancestors".
